Solidaire Mourns Janisha R. Gabriel, Our Movement Warrior
With the deepest sorrow and love, the Solidaire team is sharing that we have lost one of our own, Janisha R. Gabriel.
Janisha lived a life of love and transformation, changing the world every day with her grace and profound compassion. The Solidaire community is deeply grieving Janisha’s loss — and also celebrating the good fortune of learning so much from her brilliant, creative, revolutionary, healing and optimistic ways, first as our communications consultant since 2018, then as our communications manager and digital organizer.
Janisha brought a deep movement ethos and creative fire to Solidaire, pushing us to center movement voices in our communications and bringing beauty across our digital collateral, storytelling and community building work. Her impact was immense and long-lasting. She was a daughter, a sister, and a dear friend and colleague.
We send our deepest love to her family. We will continue to honor her devotion to movement building, Black liberation and inside-out transformation in all we do. In the coming weeks, we will also share more about how we intend to celebrate her legacy at Solidaire.
