Climate Justice Dispatch
Solidaire’s Movement Partnerships Team is proud to release the Climate Justice Dispatch, which uplifts the work of our movement partners in the fight for climate justice. It explores what traditional philanthropy gets wrong about environmental funding and how frontline communities lead the way with an intersectional approach. Climate justice is central to our pooled funds, and collectively, we have moved $8,727,786 since 2020 to movement formations, which are overwhelming Black and Indigenous-led.
“Climate justice is a place where intersectionality is front and center. Solidaire’s strong grounding in racial justice and climate justice is apparent in our grantmaking commitments to Indigenous sovereignty and regions like Alaska and the Gulf Coast.”
– Robin Beck, Solidaire board member
The dispatch shares the voices of our movement partners and members who are active in this work, whether it is frontline organizing, resource mobilization or both. It explains why Indigenous sovereignty is key to tackle the climate crisis, warns about the pitfalls of false climate solutions and explores where we can grow as a network in our accompaniment of this movement.
The Climate Justice Dispatch shows how our grantmaking practices honor, accompany and bolster powerful work on the frontlines. Our ecosystem approach to funding uplifts clusters of movement formations so that they are stronger together. We provide multiyear commitments to general operations, with heart-led grantmaking practices that prioritize relationships with integrity. We have shown up for our movement partners with additional resources for movement protection and collective care. This dispatch is a reflection on everything that we get right and a call to interrogate our growing edges.
